Father Son Farmer's Market Moves

Description

A scen form a local farmer's market where the majority of the produce items are supplied by the folks of a Hutterite Community quite a distance across the stat. A regular event with quite a fascinating dynamic for me. The Hutterites are a somewhat isolated, Germany origin, agrarian religious sect which migrated to the United States over  century ago and have established themselves as very hard charging, successful business folks in many arenas. A wall street Tycoon would not care to try to out trade these folks, who are the quintessential dicker demons. I am pretty certain the term "suggested retail price" originated in trade with the Hutterites. They mark, or state a price for their stuff; but if you are willing to take a deep breath, roll up your sleeves, and dare them to knock the chip off your shoulder -- your monetary milage may vary. They HATE making die kleine geld and any change for that matter. If your goods cost 36 bucks, you hand them forty, they will talk like an auctioneer to see if you might go for anything else that they would throw in for the four dollars over. My Mom once bought some frozen chickens here and handed them the nearest dollar amount, the guy started rooting through his coolers like a man on a  mission and i had no idea why. Well he wasn;t going to make change so he hunted until he found the right number of chickens, at the right weights and prices to come as close to the amount Mom passed along without going over.

Even here the times they are a'changing. The Main man wears the more traditional all black, his son, i believe, sports a more conventional cowboy hat and overalls. Always a fun, fine time doing a deal -- and getting some mighty fine produce.
