Description

The "Hangman's Building" Five notorious Road Agents were hanged from the exposed wooden beam in the dead of winter 1864 while the incomplete building was under construction. Afterward, the structure was finished and went on to serve yeoman duty for a number of businesses, still standing to this day as a mini museum. A very fascinating story of Sarah Bickford -- the Black Female, former slave, Chief Executive officer of a the public Water Works with offices hosted in the building until 1931. The Lady made a bit of coin on the side putting in a trap door to fleece the squares for a look into the ceiling at the timber serving as epicenter of the vigilante dealings. It strikes me that I might have the willies if my office desk was situated right below the piece of architecture so intimately associated with the violent demise of five bad men. A true business woman no doubt is not possessed of such superstitious nonsense.

I think this is captivating. Nice job in rendering the story, too.
