This Coyote (Canis latrans) Thought he had given me the slip, though he did not know that i had a plan to out fox him. Smile for the camera i said to him as he turned to find me dogging his tracks.
This guy was just outside of Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone. The critter ran across the road and dived into the woods thinking i would hesitate to follow. All in all, turned out to be a good sport pausing for a few photo ops. It was the second one i had seen on the trip after going about three years without a sight of one.
That is quite a look isn't. All that is missing is a pair of black rimmed glasses to peer over at me. i do actually think i peeved the critter in making a lucky guess where it was going instead of the way he made me think he was going .
I doubt too many coyotes enjoy being out foxed, and dogging this poor guys tracks must just be the icing on his cake, his very punny cake. Lol, great pic, I've always liked these shy little canines.
This is as close as i have ever gotten to one, and as long as i have had one hang around. Most of the ones i have seen in life are nothing but a blur burning rubber to parts unknown. This critter ran across the road into the snow and underbrush and he thought he figured out a round-about plan to loose me while i was getting out of the car. I did not zig when he figured i would zag in his master plan however and i got him.
Lol well congrats on your crafty maneuvering skills, it takes wit to best a canine of this caliber. But yes, amazing pic. I wish I could see one up close, but most coyotes are extremely shy around these parts seeing as I live near a pasture of cows with many "on duty" farmers. I am lucky enough to hear them yip though, on quiet nights, and I think that's pretty neat.
They are very stealthy and elusive. If there is no clear medium for them to leave tracks in, they may visit you closer than you will ever know. They are said to frequent every inch of the country, from the largest urban area to the remotest wild. They do tend to become shy from being shot at a lot. i have a cabin in a fairly secluded area below a mountain and they often call to each other from various places around the slope and the forest below and it is beautifully haunting as they most often do it most right at dusk and they are all around the place. i can feel what you are saying about the neatness of that. i haven't ever seen one of them when they are calling like that, but my brother once chimed in with them and actually called one in to him, at which point he looked up and had a ooohchy-mama hemorrhage and decided it was time to come inside.
Well, that does sound amazing. All growing up I had an obsession with wolves, and their tinier cousins, the coyote, so that would be beyond a treat to see. For some reason my interests are now more towards woolly pachyderms (don't ask me why, 'cause I have no idea lol), but I'd still give anything for that sort of experience.
Where was this taken??
BRAVO!!!!!
Thanks for the thumbs up of approval!
